Please reach us at communitykiln@smoc.org with the title "Open House"
if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Our address is 46 Park Street, Framingham, MA. There is free parking in the rear of the building or along Park Street. The entrance to our studio is at the rear of the building.
You will see large lettering on the building that says “Pearl St. Cupboard” and occasionally a bus that says “Pop Up Pantry.” Our door is to the left of these landmarks. You may park anywhere in the lot to access our door, parking is always free.
We are located on the third floor of the building. During morning classes and evening classes, the door should be unlocked and the elevator is right down the hall from the door. Press 3 for the 3rd floor and when you exit the elevator, we are on the left.
In case the door is locked, please ring the doorbell for the third floor and you will be buzzed into the door. The door will be locked automatically on weekends, nights after 7PM and Pearl St. Cupboard Holidays.
This is a completely FREE event sponsored by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Bring your friends and your family to have fun at our event together.
There will be additional pottery and merchandise for sale, but attendees are not required to purchase anything. All purchases will go back into funding our non-profit studio.
To make this event accessible to all members of our community, registration for our Try it Wheelthrowing and Pottery Painting will be on the day of our event ONLY. No pre-registration online will be available and the events will be first come, first serve based on availability.
In person registration for Try it Wheelthrowing will start at 10AM, November 9th and we can accommodate 22 students (11 from 11-11:50AM and 11 from 12-12:50PM).
Pottery Painting will also be first come, first serve based on seating and material availability. Our seating space can comfortably fit 20 individuals. Sign up will start at 12PM on November 9th.
Pottery takes patience! Your pieces are just at the beginning of their journeys and will take a couple weeks to complete. Ceramics is a time consuming process and has a few necessary periods of waiting in between each step. Know that we are working hard and diligently to ensure that your workshop pieces come out as beautiful as possible.
We will contact you at a minimum of three weeks after your workshop date when your items are ready for pickup. Please note that we can not keep your items for longer than two months after they are completed and will be donated after this time.
Please make sure to fill out your in-person registration form completely so we have an active email address to contact you with when your items are ready for pickup!
Our Pottery Olympics is an event that is only available to participate in for past and present Community Kiln students. We ask that if you are not a current or past student of our studio that you do not actively participate. Spectators of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to watch this event unfold!
Yes, donated pottery will be for sale throughout the day. These pieces are gifted to our studio by our Community Kiln students and instructors and sold to raise money for our programming.
Clay is a very messy hobby! We recommend that you wear clothes that are okay to get dirty (old t-shirts, leggings, jeans, etc.). If you are wheelthrowing, make sure you can move around easily and your clothes do not restrict you from sitting up and down. For individuals with long hair, make sure it is pulled up and out of your face to prevent getting in your work. Wear comfortable work shoes that you are able to stand up and sit down in. If you have an apron at home that you would like to bring, you may do this as well, but Community kiln does have aprons and oversized shirts available to be worn.
